This tune is about uncertainty in a relationship. It marks the difficult space of not knowing which direction to go with one’s heart. Two people can share the same experience for which they would offer very different understandings. It might be romance; it might be friendship. And as we “carry on,” living into the answers one step at a time, we may find that the path brings us to a broader, less defined, way of loving in the end.

Brushing up against old scars
And the saddest part
I don’t think you understand
You’ve never had
Your heart broken before
A tragedy that empathy
Comes at the price of suffering
No baby, I don’t want you to hurt
But I wish you knew
What you do to me
And I wish I knew
How to set this free
So I could simply carry on, carry on
Must I let you go
Must I tell you so
I’m in anguish over the grey
While you sail on in blue
And I don’t want to just be
Good for your ego
Babe, I want to love you
Mixed signals just don’t exist
So I try to resist
The temptation to give in
And let you win
What you still have to earn
My logic cries open your eyes
Now’s not the time to compromise
Yeah baby, I know what I deserve
But I wish you knew
What you do to me
And I wish I knew
How to set this free
So I could simply carry on, carry on
Must I let you go
Must I tell you so
I’m in anguish over the grey
While you sail on in blue
And I don’t want to just be
Good for your ego
Babe, I want to love you
Must I let you go
Must I tell you so
I’m in anguish over the grey
While you sail on in blue
And I don’t want to just be
Good for your ego
Babe, I want to love you
Simply carry on
Simply carry on
Simply carry on
Carry on
